The Anatolian Fire is based on thousands
of years of Anatolian mythology and
culture, and it is an original project
comprising of hundreds of folk dance
figures and folk music collected from
almost every region of Turkey. Under
the direction of Mustafa Erdoğan, this
project hopes to introduce to the whole
world the fire of Anatolia - a mosaic
of love, culture, and history of thousands
of years blended with peace.
Initially, Mustafa Erdoğan formed his
dance group to perform the “Sultans
of the Dance” show. First an advertisement,
“dancers wanted” was placed in the newspapers
over three years ago. Seven hundred
and fifty people applied. From among
the 750 applicants, 90 young people
were selected, and a challenging one
and a half year, eight hours a day (sometimes
even as much as 16 hours a day) work
and exercise schedule began. The “Sultans
of the Dance” was an international success
and completed its run in 2002.
Now the same dance group is performing
the Anatolian Fire, a completely new
show that opened in Konya, Istanbul,
and Munich in May, 2003. A beautiful
collection of costumes were prepared
and the music was carefully compiled
and composed for this show. The dancers
worked with a score of choreographers,
dieticians, and masseurs and they
performed stretches and yoga to achieve
peak condition. The dancers focused
their studies and practice on folk
dance steps, ballet, and modern dance.
The dancers also received theoretical
lessons in the dynamics of Anatolian
rhythms.
The
Anatolian Fire is considered one of
the most important dance shows in
the world. The dance group is currently
on an international tour, and they
have and continue to make an amazing
effort to share the Anatolian culture
in a magical and entertaining manner.
