HÜSAMETTIN
KOÇAN (Bayburt, 1946)
He graduated in 1970 from the IDTGSYO
Painting Department. In 1975, he began
working there as an assistant. In 1978
he participated in the Salzburg Summer
Academy with a scholarship from the
Austrian Government. In 1980, he completed
his dissertation “Turkish Folk
Paintings” and became an instructor.
He opened his first individual exhibition
in 1981 in Istanbul (DTGSYO). He was
one of he founders of the Plastics Arts
Association (PSD) in 1989, and has performed
as its chairman. He continues his duty
as the dean of the M.Ü.G.S.F.
Initially, he used anatomical elements
of the human body, such as the torsos,
together with local light effects
in an abstract style. In his later
paintings the figure image has gradually
disappeared, and a new inclination
has appeared. The understanding for
color has become evident and the abstract
volume is envisioned and basic motives
are adapted.
