Turkish Student reached the Final Goal at the Soya Point

Mr. Caner Grolier (26), a Turkish student from Istanbul, just finished his bicycle trip in the afternoon of June 6 at Soya Point. “I am so happy I could reach my goal and have very good experiences,” said Mr. Gurellier.

As one events of the “2003 Year of Turkey in Japan,” he left Sata Pointof Kagoshima Prefecture on April 25 with the support of the Turkish Embassy.
Although he was forced to move by train in some part because of typhoon, he continued to cycle distances ranging from 80 km. to 120 km. every day. He arrived at Hakodate  on May 17, then he went north via Sapporo, and finally arrived the far north point of Japan.

He learned Japanese in the university, and is currently working as a tour guide. He also played an important role in introducing Turkish culture to many Japanese people. While at Soya Point, he was surrounded by many Japanese people who had earlier been to Turkey.

”I will never forget this wonderful trip,” said Mr. Gurellier. He is planning to write a book about this trip someday.
