NURI ABAÇ
(Istanbul, 1926)
He entered the Painting Department of
Istanbul Academy of Fine arts in 1944.
He worked for approximately one year
at the Leopold Levy workshop. Later
on he continued at the Department of
Architecture and graduated in 1950.
He opened his first individual exhibition
in Mersin in 1949. He settled in Ankara
in 1960, and was founding member of
the Association of United Painters and
Sculptors. He has had more than fifty
individual exhibitions in Turkey, and
has participated in around 120 joint
exhibition and biennials, most of them
abroad. He has received more than ten
awards in various competitions, and
was granted the “Fiftieth Art
Anniversary” award in 1988.
He continues to create fantastic
compositions with traditional motifs
and subjects in an effort to realize
a supernatural fairy tale.
