Azra Akin, a 21-year-old Turkish model and dancer won the Miss World 2002, bringing to an end an event that incited deadly rioting in Nigeria and was moved to Britain.

A total of 92 contestants from different countries took part in the contest.
 


"I was raised in the Netherlands by my parents who are both of Turkish Decent and I have a little sister. I have finished my secondary education and would like to on to study at the academy for Art & design and languages. At the age of four I began to take ballet lessons and since then it became my passion, I also enjoy modern dance, street dance and the belly dance. My hobbies are: drawing, reading and playing the German flute. In sport I like swimming, running and general fitness."

"I hope I will represent the women of the world and Turkey in a good way" said Azra. "I am very honoured to be Miss World."
