Turan Erol (Milas,
1927)
He graduated from the Istanbul State
Academy of Fine Arts in 1951, where
he worked under Bedri Rahmi. Before
1963 he taught painting at various educational
institutions. He began working at Gazi
Institute of Education Department of
Painting-Work in 1963, and continued
there for ten years. During this period
he also taught at the Press and Publication
School, and was also known as a writer
of art. He has participated in many
local and international individual and
group exhibitions. He also won the 1968
State Painting and Sculpture Exhibition
First Prize Award, and the 1980 Sedat
Simavi Foundation Visual Arts Award.
Presently the artist continues his studies
in Ankara and explains his art by saying
that he is not anxious to reflect his
environment and nature, just the opposite
in fact as he searches for familiar
reflections of the things he want to
make in his environment and nature into.
